TuitionContact me for tuition in electric bass & electric guitarBA(hons) music, PGCE and CRB checked Electric bassI emphasise the importance of reading and gaining fingerboard knowledge through the study of scales and arpeggios. This also develops the correct technique and muscle memory. Playing with the drum machine and metronome are key to developing good solid time, fundamental to the bassist. Different styles of music are explored to make the student adaptable and open to new music. This develops the ability to handle the role through diversity. My lessons are tailored to the learners goals whether hobbyist, aspiring professional or someone aiming to achieve graded exams for access to higher education. All grades to grade 8 are catered for. I teach on the 4, 5 or 6 string bass and will cover slapping techniques. I do not teach two handed tapping or advanced studies in the use of harmonics. I strongly advocate the use of notation and the development of a musical ear over the reliance on tablature. It’s fun too! Electric guitarFor the electric guitar I encourage learning to read melodies in 1 st position to gain note recognition skills and to develop the ear. Students learn all common chord forms using open strings and all essential barre chord forms. These chords are practised in progressions as they appear in song forms. Playing with the drum machine or metronome and following chord charts are covered in different styles. For lead guitar playing the 12 bar blues is explored as a vehicle for applying the minor pentatonic and blues scale to create logical, musically satisfying solos. Further scale studies include how to use the already learned minor pentatonic with the relative major key and basic major scale patterns. Music theory for the guitarist and more advanced jazz chords can also be covered if required. My lessons are tailored to the learners goals whether hobbyist, aspiring professional or someone aiming to achieve graded exams. All grades to grade 6 are catered for. I strongly advocate the use of notation and the development of a musical ear over the reliance on tablature. It’s fun too! There’s more!I teach jazz double bass, specifically walking techniques and bassline construction. I do not teach bowing or classical double bass. I also teach classical guitar to grade 3 including young beginners. Bossa Nova accompaniment techniques using jazz chords on the nylon string guitar.
